Trio named to CoSIDA Volleyball Academic All-District teams

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 20 Salisbury University volleyball team had three members selected to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. Senior outside hitter Stacey Krebs and senior setter Jaime Marzocchi were both named to the College Division All-District second team for District 2. Junior middle hitter Nicole Massarelli was named to the All-District third team.

Krebs holds a 3.80 grade point average and is a physical education major. She was selected to the Academic All-District third team last season. The Eldersburg, Md., native leads the team with 369 kills and is third in digs (277). She was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week on October 15 and Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week on October 13. Krebs is the reigning CAC Player of the Year and was a first team All-CAC selection a year ago.

Marzocchi holds a 3.85 grade point average and is a physical education major. The Harrington Park, N.J., leads the Sea Gulls in assists (996) and is fourth in digs with 222. Massarelli, a post-secondary education major, carries a 3.95 grade point average. The Clarksville, Md., native has been named CAC Player of the Week awards twice this season (September 8 and September 22). She is first on the team in blocks (86), second in service aces (49), and third in kills (263).

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
