Massarelli gathers second CAC Player of the Week honor
YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference player of the week awards and Salisbury University junior middle hitter Nicole Massarelli was named the volleyball recipient for September 22. This is the second time she has received this honor in the past three weeks.
Massarelli's outstanding effort led SU to a 5-0 record for the week. The Sea Gulls defeated CAC foe Marymount (Va.) University and went 4-0 to win the Sea Gull Classic hosted at the Maggs Center this past weekend. The maroon and gold posted wins over Virginia Wesleyan College (3-1), Swarthmore College (3-0) and Richard Stockton College (3-0, 3-0).
The Clarksville, Md., native was honored as Most Valuable Player of the tournament after she contributed double-digit kills in the four tournament matches and finished the week with 46 kills. She now has 129 kills on the season. The junior had a 7-for-15 hitting performance against Marymount to go along with four service aces and two digs.
This is the third straight week a Sea Gull has been recognized by the conference. Last week, junior Rachel Downes took home the honor.
Salisbury will return to action on Tuesday, September 23, against CAC and Rt. 13 rival Wesley College.
