Sea Gulls Win First Match of the Season
BALTIMORE - The Salisbury University volleyball team began its season on a winning note as the Sea Gulls defeated New Jersey City University, 3-1, in the 2006 Asics/Johns Hopkins Invitational. SU won the match 30-24, 30-23, 21-30, 30-27.
The Sea Gulls (1-0) were led by their talented freshman class as Rachel Downes recorded a team-high 12 kills followed by Nicole Massarelli's 11. Gabby Long tallied 23 digs and Savannah Tinsley had 40 assists.
NJCU junior Lizzelle Cintron's 21 kills and sophomore Sophia Gutierrez had a team best 39 assists for the Knights (0-1).
The Sea Gulls will be back in action tomorrow as they face Sewanee University of the South at 9 a.m. followed by a match against Randolph-Macon College at 11 a.m.
