Women's tennis tops Catholic in 2018 home opener

The Salisbury University women’s tennis team won in its 2018 home opener on Friday, February 23, defeating Catholic University of America, 8-1. The Sea Gulls swept the three doubles matches with sophomore Jordan Schaefer and freshman Sydney Soto picking up a quick 8-2 win at No. 1, followed by junior Taylor Cooper and senior Sage Cole claiming an 8-3 win at No. 2. Junior Shannon Hickman and freshman Ariana Leggio came up with an 8-4 win at No. 3 to pull the doubles sweep. In singles play, Soto rolled to the first point, with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 before sophomore Julia Kwedi secured the fifth point for Salisbury with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2. Annika Kezman won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 with the Sea Gulls also getting points at No. 4 from Schaefer and No. 6 singles from Kayla Allen. Salisbury is off on Saturday, but will host Bridgewater College on Sunday, February 25 beginning at 9 a.m.
