FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly women's tennis awards on Tuesday afternoon and Salisbury University sophomore Julia Kwedi was named the league's Player of the Week.
Kwedi helped Salisbury to a pair of wins on Friday, topping Washington (Md.) College, 5-4, and St. Mary's College of Maryland, 8-1. Kwedi and playing partner Annika Kezman pushed their opponents from Washington to a tie-breaker at No. 1 doubles, eventually picking up a 9-8 (9-7) win and when the Sea Gulls held a 4-3 lead, needing one more point to seal the match, Kwedi came up with a 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 victory to seal the team win.
Against St. Mary's, Kwedi played only in doubles, but she and Kezman earned an 8-2 win.
The Sea Gulls will play two more CAC matches this Saturday, April 7, traveling to both Penn State University-Harrisburg and York College of Pennsylvania.
