Women's tennis opens CAC play with 8-1 win against Frostburg

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team kicked off Capital Athletic Conference play on Sunday hosting Frostburg State University and coming away with a dominant 8-1 victory.

The Sea Gulls (5-1, 1-0 CAC) rolled through doubles play with senior Sage Cole and junior Taylor Cooper picking up an 8-0 win at No. 2 while sophomore Jordan Schaefer and freshman Sydney Soto claimed an 8-2 win at No. 1. Junior Shannon Hickman and freshman Ariana Leggio rounded out the doubles wins at No. 3, winning 8-4.

In singles play, Salisbury picked up a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins with Schaefer winning at No. 3 and freshman Marina Kaiafas winning at No. 4.

Cooper, playing at No. 1 singles, won 6-1, 6-0 with Cole picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 and Kaiafas claiming a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4.

The only win of the day for the Bobcats (3-3, 0-1 CAC) came at the No. 6 spot where Ijeoma Uwahemo picked up a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory against junior Shannon McNerney.

The Sea Gulls will be on the road for their next five matches, starting this Friday, March 9 when they travel to Franklin & Marshall College.
