Women's tennis sweeps Southern Virginia for first league win of 2016

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win against Southern Virginia University for the Sea Gulls' first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the year. The match was a neutral-site affair, played at the University of Mary Washington.

Salisbury picked up a 3-0 lead following doubles play, with a pair of 8-0 victories. Senior Natalie Savage and junior Zoe Moffat earned one of the shutout wins at No. 1, while sophomores Megan Soderlund and Sage Cole grabbed the other at No. 3.

At No. 2 doubles, senior Megan Knapp and junior Claudia Lohn and picked up an 8-3 win for the three-point lead.

Salisbury (5-1, 1-1 CAC) gave up just six games while sweeping the six singles matches. Cole earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6, while Savage won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, and Soderlund at No. 3, freshman Taylor Cooper at No. 4, and Knapp at No. 5 all won 6-0, 6-1.

Moffat picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 to complete the sweep.

The Sea Gulls are back in action on Saturday, March 5 hosting Franklin & Marshall College. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
