SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team played its second home match this Sunday against Bridgewater (Va.) College, defeating the Eagles 9-0 outside at the SU Tennis Courts.
The Sea Gulls took all three points to start off the match with doubles wins. Starting with the No. 2 doubles spot, junior Claudia Lohn and sophomore Megan Soderlund claimed an 8-2 win, followed shortly by Natalie Savage and Zoe Moffat with a solid 8-1 victory at No. 1.
The concluding doubles match played by senior Megan Knapp and freshman Taylor Cooper remained close early, but the Salisbury duo ultimately broke serve and took the 8-2 win over Bridgewater's pair of Shannon Quinn and Haley Lloyd.
In singles play, Salisbury was on a steady grind at the No.1 and No. 2 spots. First off the court was Savage with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1. Moffat soon followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
Cooper was second off the court in singles matches, with again an almost shutout match at 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5. Cooper claimed the women's victory with the fifth point.
Soderlund, at No. 4, had an impressive 6-2, 6-2 win after having some solid break games with great returning points on receiving serve. Knapp took home a 6-0, 6-2 success at No. 6.
Last on the court was Lohn, who had the longest and toughest match of the day. In the end, she pulled away with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 to take the final point of the 9-0 victory for the Gulls.
The Sea Gulls return to action on Friday, March 4 playing against Southern Virginia University at a neutral site in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with the match starting at 3:30.
