YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly tennis awards on Tuesday, and Salisbury University senior Katie Youlios picked up her second league Player of the Week honor this year.
Youlios helped the Sea Gulls to a 6-3 win in their only match of the week, defeating Eastern Shore rival Washington (Md.) College on Saturday. Youlios began the day by joining junior Natalie Savage for an impressive win at No. 1 doubles. The Salisbury pair, ranked No. 9 in the Atlantic South Region, topped Washington's No. 14 regionally-ranked pair of April Weaver and Marielle McIntyre, 8-1, for the first point of the day for the Gulls.
The Wayne, New Jersey native came back in singles play to register the match-clinching point for Salisbury, earning a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 over McIntyre for the Sea Gulls' fifth point.
This year, Youlios and Savage are 11-4 in doubles play, while Youlios has won nine of her 13 singles matches.
Youlios and the Sea Gulls return to the courts on Wednesday, April 8, traveling to No. 20 University of Mary Washington.
