YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's and women's tennis teams swept the Capital Athletic Conference weekly awards, as junior Shanon Gunther earn men's Player of the Week, and sophomore Claudia Lohn took the women's Player of the Week.
Gunther enjoyed an undefeated 8-0 week, as the Sea Gulls took four CAC matches in the span. He went 4-0 in doubles play, teaming with freshman Sean Ngo in three matches and freshman Noah Orders in the fourth. Gunther only dropped two games to opponents in three matches at No. 2 doubles, while adding an 8-2 victory in one match at No. 1.
He added another 4-0 clip in singles play, winning two matches at No. 3 and two at No. 4, while only dropping four games. One of the wins was a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Lohn also tallied a perfect 8-0 week in four CAC wins for the Salisbury women. She won four times at No. 2 doubles with partner freshman Charlotte Walker; the pair allowed just five games to their opponents with wins of 8-2, 8-0, 8-1, and 8-2.
Lohn was also perfect in four singles matches, winning once at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0), twice at No. 2, allowing just six-total games to her opponents in the two matches, and once at No. 1 to close out the week. In the No. 1 win, she claimed the first set, 6-0, before her opponent from Penn St. Harrisburg was forced to retire.
The men's and women's teams are both back in action on Saturday, April 4, as the Sea Gulls will host Washington (Md.) College at the SU Tennis Courts; the matches are set to begin at 11 a.m.
