LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team picked up its third 9-0 win of the season, taking down Occidental College on Monday night.
Salisbury (6-2) rolled to three doubles wins, surrendering just nine games to take the 3-0 lead. Senior Katie Youlios and junior Natalie Savage picked the quick 8-0 win at No. 1, for a point, while sophomore Claudia Lohn and freshman Charlotte Walker won 8-4 at No. 2 and senior Allison Lutz and freshman Megan Soderlund grabbed the win at No. 3, 8-5. The wins help Salisbury improve to 20-4 overall in doubles play in 2015 (.833 winning percentage).
The Sea Gulls picked up all six singles wins in straight sets, led by Soderlund's 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6. Walker, playing her first match at the No. 4 spot, surrendered just one game, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Savage, at No. 1, and Lutz, at No. 5, each lost just four games with Savage winning 6-3, 6-1 and Lutz flipping those scores for a 6-1, 6-3 win.
Youlious earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 while Lohn was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 3 to seal the shutout win over the Tigers (1-5).
The Sea Gulls will be back on the courts on Wednesday, March 18, taking on The University of the South in Claremont, California beginning at noon, eastern time.
