Salisbury wins seventh straight with 9-0 victory at LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas – The Salisbury University women's tennis team earned its third straight win on its spring break trip to Texas, and the team's seventh straight win overall, shutting out LeTourneau University on Wednesday afternoon, 9-0.

Salisbury (7-2) got an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles by junior Jessica Babyak and sophomore Katie Youlios. The Sea Gull duo remained unbeaten in six matches together this season.

Senior Jillian Poppe and freshman Natalie Savage won at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, while Senior Elaina Iosue and sophomore Roxanne Alban picked up an 8-3 win at No. 2.

Salisbury, the No. 9-ranked team in the Atlantic South Region, earned a clean sweep of the singles matches, taking all six in straight sets.

Savage, at No. 2, and sophomore Allison Lutz, at No. 6, each surrendered just one game to their opponent; Savage, who improved to 8-1 on the season, won 6-1, 6-0 while Lutz prevailed 6-0, 6-1.

Senior Victoria Handlin won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 while Alban collected a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4.

Youlios was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at No. 4 while Poppe had to work for a 7-5 win in her first set before finishing off the victory with a 6-2 win at No. 1.

Thursday at 11 a.m., eastern time, the Sea Gulls conclude their four-match trip in Texas with a neutal-site contest against Centenary (La.) College.
