Sea Gulls roll to 9-0 win at Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas – The Salisbury University women's tennis team picked up its second win of its spring break trip in Texas with a 9-0 sweep of Austin College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls (6-2), who won their sixth straight match, rolled through doubles play, surrendering a combined three games in the three wins, paced by senior Jillian Poppe and freshman Natalie Savage, who rolled to an 8-0 win against Lizzie Flint and Sophie McDonald at No. 1.

Senior Elaina Iosue and sophomore Roxanne Alban won 8-1 at No. 2, while junior Jessica Babyak and sophomore Katie Youlios took an 8-2 win at No. 3.

The Sea Gulls' control did not end with doubles, as Salisbury picked up all six singles matches in straight sets. Alban, at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0), Youlios at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1) and sophomore Allison Lutz at No. 6 (6-2, 6-0) all surrendered just two games in their wins.

Savage collected her seventh-straight singles win, and second of the year at No. 1, with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Flint while senior Victoria Handlin won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5, her fifth straight singles victory.

Iosue's 6-4, 6-3 win was the closest match of the day as she improved to 2-0 at No. 2 in 2013.

Salisbury is back in action on Wednesday, March 20, traveling to LeTourneau University. That match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., eastern time.
