GAINESVILLE, Texas – The Salisbury University women's tennis team won its fifth-straight match on Monday, picking up an 8-1 win at North Central Texas College in the team's first match of its spring break trip.
The Sea Gulls (5-2) claimed three wins in doubles play, including an 8-2 victory by junior Jessica Babyak and sophomore Katie Youlios at No. 3. The win was the fourth, in as many matches, this season for Babyak and Youlios.
Senior Jillian Poppe and freshman Natalie Savage won their fifth-straight match, earning an 8-3 win at No. 1, over Cassidy Crawford and Jordan Chandler, while senior Elaina Iosue and sophomore Roxanne Alban picked up an 8-4 win at No. 2.
Savage picked up the most decisive singles win of the day, winning her sixth-straight win, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, over Elizabeth Arens while Poppe earned the most hard-fought victory, topping Crawford 7-6 (12-10), 4-6, 12-10, at No. 1.
Alban dropped just four games at No. 4, with a 6-1, 6-3 win, while Youlios won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 and senior Victoria Handlin picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.
Iosue picked up five games before falling 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3.
The Sea Gulls will take to the courts tomorrow at 5 p.m., eastern time, traveling to Austin College for the second of four matches in Texas this week.
