SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University tennis teams each earned solid wins on Sunday afternoon at the SU Tennis Courts. The men posted their seventh shutout victory of the season against Elizabethtown College before taking a hard-fought 6-3 victory against Haverford College, making it their fourth win in just two days. The women's team also earned a 6-3 win, against Elizabethtown.
The Sea Gull men (14-5, 5-2 Capital Athletic Conference) played an intense match against Haverford; senior Andrew Nottage waged battle at No. 1 singles but ultimately suffered a 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 loss. Sophomore Henry Stuhler came back from a 4-6 loss in the first set with a pair of 6-3 wins in the second and third sets to remain undefeated in 2011.
The womens' (13-2, 6-1 CAC) victory, against Elizabethtown, also contained a handful of close matches. Sophomore Elaina Iosue pulled out a victory at No. 2 singles with a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-1 win; classmate Rachel Lupinetti's No. 5 singles match was similar, also going to three sets and resulting in a Sea Gull victory.
The men will be on the road for their next contest, against Christopher Newport University, on April 12 at 3 p.m. The women are set to host Johns Hopkins University on April 13 at 4 p.m.
