SU women's tennis ranked eighth in region, Burr ranked No. 18 in singles

SKILLMAN, N.J. - The final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III national poll was released and the Salisbury University women's team (14-5) finish the season ranked No. 8 in the Atlantic South region. Junior Jackie Burr finished the season ranked No. 18 in the region for singles. Burr and senior doubles partner Anna Marie Kable were ranked eighth in the region.

The SU men's team is ranked No. 30 in the country. The Sea Gulls (14-7) completed their season in the Capital Athletic Conference championship where they lost 8-1 to No. 18 University of Mary Washington.

University of California-Santa Cruz moved from No. 3 to No. 1 as it captured the 2009 NCAA Division III men's tennis national championship. Amherst College follows at No. 2 with Emory University at No. 3 and Washington (Mo.) University at No. 4. Claremont-Mudd Scripps and Middlebury College round out the top five as the two teams tied for fifth.

SU doubles pair of juniors Scott Burtzlaff and Evan Thomas moved into the national doubles rankings after their performance at the NCAA tournament in Claremont, Calif. The two finished the season No. 15 after they fell to No. 3 Charlie Cutler and Chris Hoeland from Washington (Mo.) University.

The Sea Gulls remain ranked No. 7 in the Atlantic South region. Burtzlaff and Thomas finished the season ranked third in the region for doubles.

The two teams bring back a wealth of talented players for the 2010 season as the women bring back seven-of-10 letterwinners and the men return 11-of-12 student-athletes.
