Burr named CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference player of the week awards for women's tennis and Salisbury University junior Jackie Burr has been named the recipient for the week of April 21. This is the second time this spring the Dover, Del., native has been named the award winner as she was recognized on March 10.

Burr helped the Sea Gulls (14-4), ranked 10th in the Atlantic South region, pick up a pair of CAC victories with matches against St. Mary's (Md.) College and Wesley College. She also helped SU close out its regular-season schedule with a win over non-conference Eastern Shore rival Washington (Md.) College, who is ranked 11th in the region. The junior had a combined record of 6-0 for the week at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Against the Seahawks, Burr teamed up with her regular doubles partner Anna Marie Kable for an 8-3 victory and won at singles 6-0, 6-1. Burr then helped SU coach Randy Halfpap notch his 100th career victory as Burr and Lauren Bakker won 8-1 before Burr won 6-1, 6-0 in singles play. The junior then teamed up with Kable against the Shorewomen to win 8-5 and then won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

For the season, Burr is 10-5 at first singles and 16-3 at doubles, including a 13-2 mark at first doubles with Kable.
