Salisbury women's tennis earns seven All-CAC honors
YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference
announced its all-conference awards for women's tennis on Wednesday
and four Salisbury University Sea Gulls were honored. The Sea Gulls
(14-5) had three players honored on the All-CAC first or second
teams for singles play and two doubles pairs were honored.
Junior Jackie Burr was the lone Sea Gull on the
All-CAC first team for singles as she posted a 10-6 record at first
singles for the maroon and gold this season. She was 4-1 in
conference play at the top position for SU in '09. Last season,
Burr was selected to the all-conference second team for singles.
Senior Anna Marie Kable and junior
Kelly Fahrner make their third straight appearance
on the All-CAC singles teams as they were each named to the second
team. The pair was named to the all-conference first team for
singles last season and the second team in '07. Kable had an
overall record of 8-6, with a record of 5-6 at No. 4 singles.
Fahrner went 7-6 at No. 3 singles with an overall record of 9-6.
At doubles, Burr and Kable return to the All-CAC first team for
the second consecutive season as the duo earned second team honors
in '07. The third-year doubles partners finished with an overall
record of 14-3 as the pair went 4-1 in conference play. Junior
Rachel Iosue and Fahrner were named to the All-CAC
second team for doubles for the second straight season. The two had
a strong season at No. 2 doubles for the maroon and gold with a
record of 10-4.
CAC regular season and tournament champion University of Mary
Washington had seven players win 13 all-conference awards. UMW's
Rebecca Morse-Karzen was named CAC Player of the Year for the
second consecutive season and Kathryn Schafer was named CAC Rookie
of the Year. Eagle head coach Patrick Catullo was named CAC Coach
of the Year for the fourth consecutive season.
SU now has 132 All-CAC women's tennis honors since it joined the
conference in 1994. The Sea Gulls have placed 45 players on the
first team and 87 on the second team.
