SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
women's tennis team has yet to surrender a point in Capital
Athletic Conference play as the Sea Gulls defeated Villa Julie
College 9-0 on Sunday. Salisbury improved to 11-2 for the season
and is a perfect 4-0 in conference.
The Sea Gulls got on the board first with three points from
their doubles teams. Freshman Julia Glanz and
sophomore Kristen King defeated Meghan Henszey and
Melissa Venter, 8-1. Juniors Hannah Parsons and
Robyn Wendell won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles while
sophomores Kelly Fahrner and Rachel
Iosue won 8-3 at No. 2.
Salisbury carried the momentum into singles play where the Sea
Gulls gradually earned points from the bottom of their order to the
top. Junior Lauren Bakker won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6
singles. Freshman Angela Tenaglia followed with a
6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 as King won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. The
top three spots for the Sea Gulls saw junior Anna Marie
Kable hold down No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win; sophomore
Jackie Burr was victorious at No. 2 with a 6-2,
6-1 win and Parsons closed the match out with a 6-1, 6-2 decision
at No. 3 singles. All 10 Sea Gulls played in the match against
Villa Julie.
The Sea Gulls will wrap-up their CAC schedule this week with a
road match at York (Wednesday) followed by a visit to Mary
Washington (Sunday).
