Feb 24, 2008 Salisbury opens the season with a winFREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Salisbury University
women's tennis team won its first match of the 2008 season as the
Sea Gulls defeated Meredith College 5-4 on Sunday at the
Battleground Tennis Courts on the campus of University of Mary
Washington.
Salisbury (1-0) received singles points from sophomore
Rachel Iosue, junior Robyn
Wendell and sophomore Kristen King. The
Sea Gulls took two of three points in doubles as the top team of
junior Anna Marie Kable and Iosue defeated Kathryn
Maples and Sydney Williford 8-5. Sophomore Kelly
Fahrner and King won at No. 3 doubles with an 8-4 win.
Iosue defeated Maples at No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-3
while Wendell took down Amanda Bitler 6-3, 6-4 in No. 4 singles.
King shutout Meredith's Caitlin Dillon 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.
Salisbury will next host New York University on Friday, February
29, at 2 p.m.
