Apr 20, 2007 SU advances to CAC championship matchSALISBURY, Md. - The second-seeded Salisbury
University women's tennis team defeated No. 3 seed Catholic 8-1 in
the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals on Friday afternoon at
the SU Tennis Complex. The Sea Gulls (12-7) advance to Saturday's
CAC championship where they will travel and face top-seed
University of Mary Washington at 3:30 pm.
Senior Erika Mitry won the No. 1 singles 6-4,
6-0 while fellow senior Jenny Rosler won the No. 2
singles 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. The two combined to win No. 1 doubles 8-4
over the Cardinals. SU swept all three doubles matches and only
lost the No. 5 singles match.
Salisbury faced No. 10 Mary Washington earlier this season at
home (April 7) and lost 8-1. It was the Sea Gulls' only conference
loss this season. SU will take a modest four match winning streak
into Saturday's title game.
This was Catholic's final CAC match ever as the Cardinals (12-7)
are headed to the newly formed Landmark Conference next season.
