Three more records fall on day three of CAC championships

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams entered day three of the Capital Athletic Conference championships on Friday at St. Mary's College of Maryland and wrapped up the day with three more school records and a silver medal.

Men

Jake Ryan set a school record in the 50-yard butterfly time trial with a time of 23.54 seconds. Ryan also qualified for the finals with a fourth-place time of 4:18.48 in the 400-yard individual medley event. He held the fourth spot in the finals of the 400-yard individual medley, finishing in a time of 4:13.84.

Both Josh Brown and Brandon Hoagland qualified in the 100-yard butterfly preliminary, with Brown recording a fifth-place time of 51.35 seconds and Hoagland earning an eighth-place finish with a time of 53.55 seconds. Brown captured second place in the finals with a time of 50.41 seconds, while Hoagland moved up one spot to seventh place with a time of 53.30 seconds. Brown's time broke the school record, which he recorded at last year's championships.

Peter Moyer finished in fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle preliminary event with a time of 1:45.30. Moyer moved up one spot in the finals, recording a time of 1:43.72 for the fourth place finish.

Kyle Russell and Jeff Roman finished in a seventh-place tie for the final two spots in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminary, as they each recorded a time of 1:00.21. In the finals, Russell finished in seventh place with a time of 59.91 seconds while Roman finished in eighth with a time of 1:00.53.

Richard Baker finished with a sixth-place time of 53.80 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke preliminary and held that spot in the finals, finishing in a time of 53.64 seconds.

The 400-yard medley relay team of Baker, Russell, Ryan, and Brown set a school record with a time of 3:30.76, which was good for third place.

Women

Jordan DeGruchy made the cut in the 100-yard butterfly preliminary event, earning an eighth-place time of 1:02.36. DeGruchy moved up one spot in the finals, finishing in seventh place with a time of 1:01.95.

Mary Green and Mia Rutherford both placed in the 50-yard freestyle time trial, with Green finishing in second with a time of 27.65 seconds, and Rutherford following right behind in third with a time of 28.93 seconds.

Natalie Eakin finished in the top 10 in the 100-yard backstroke preliminary event, with a time of 1:04.11.

In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Eakin, Autumn Allen, DeGruchy, and Chase McClure finished in fifth place, touching the wall in 4:20.44.

The CAC championships conclude tomorrow, with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 4:30 p.m.
