Salisbury sails past Barton in non-conference meet

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams won their second meet in a row on Saturday, defeating the Barton College Bulldogs at the Magg's Physical Activities Center. The men recorded a 169-93 win, while the women also prevailed with a 201-42 victory.

Men

The men were led by senior Okan Eyigor and sophomore Andrew Ward as they both earned two individual first-place events alongside assisting in a top finish in separate relays.

Eyigor alongside fellow teammates Travis MaidaStephen Arcidiacono and Scott Schirmer got the men started on the day with a victory in the 400-meter medley relay, notching a time of 4:25.02.

Later in the meet Eyigor earned his first individual victory in the 100-meter butterfly as he posted a time of 59.61 seconds. Eyigor would shine again for the Gulls as he brought home another first-place finish in the 200-meter IM, recording a time of 2:17.69, almost three seconds faster than second place team-mate Tyler Maggio.

Sophomore Ward earned his first individual victory in a wire-to-wire finish against Barton Bulldog Alex Krasutsky, recording a time of 25.16 seconds, a mere four hundredths faster than his counter-part (25.64). Ward collected his second top spot of the afternoon during the 100-meter backstroke recording a time of 1:05.12.

Ward would end his afternoon on a high-note alongside fellow teammates Conor JohnstonPeter Moyer and Jake Blazer as they earned a victory in the 400-meter freestyle relay, notching a time of 3:44.89 and all 11 points for the Sea Gulls.

Women

The women's squad started off its dominant performance with a victory in the 400-meter medley relay. The team consisted of freshmen Emma Tarnosky and Olivia Edsall, sophomore Hannah Schlegel and junior Madison Tinus who combined for a time of 5:13.04.

In the 200-meter freestyle senior Victoria Radcliffe earned her first individual victory on the day, posting a time of 2:15.31, almost six seconds ahead of second place Bulldog Annika Jasek-Rhysdahl. Radcliffe stood out for the Sea Gulls again when she narrowly edged out fellow team mate Schlegel for top spot in the 50-meter freestyle, recording a time of 29.18 seconds, just .66 seconds ahead of Schlegel.

Junior Bizu Baldinazzo earned her first win of the afternoon as brought home all nine points for the Sea Gulls in the 100-meter butterfly, recording a time of 1:12.02. Baldinazzo went on to earn her second victory of the afternoon in the 50-meter butterfly as she posted a time of 31.84 seconds, five seconds ahead of her second place teammate Shannon Mesmer.

Tarnonsky, Tinus and Schlegel earned their second relay victory of the afternoon when they combined with senior Nikky Marders in the 400-meter freestyle relay, recording a time of 4:31.00, eight seconds faster than second-place.

The Sea Gulls return to the Magg's Physical Activities Center on Saturday, January 28 as they host the Seahawks of St. Mary's (Md.) College of Maryland. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
