YORK, Pa. - Victoria Radcliffe has been named the Capital Athletic Conference women's Athlete of the Week for the Salisbury University women's swimming team, the league announced on Tuesday.
At the Swarthmore Invitational over the weekend, Radcliffe demolished a nine-year old school record on her way to two victories, leading the Gulls to a second-place finish at the six-team meet.
During the first day of the two-day meet, Radcliffe won the 500-yard freestyle by 10 seconds, with a 5:20.57 finish. Also on day one, Radcliffe was a part of three relay teams that each finished in second place.
On day two, Radcliffe won the 400-yard individual medley by 15 seconds to break an SU record that had held since the 2006 season by eight seconds with a time of 4:41.01. The time is good for 20th best in Division III this season. Later in the day, Radcliffe took third in the 100-yard breaststroke when she touched the wall at 1:11.59.
This marks the third time in Radcliffe's career that she has won the CAC Athlete of the Week as this is the third season in a row she has won the award in the last full week in October.
The Sea Gulls are back in the pool on Saturday, December 5 when they travel to Widener University for a 1:00 p.m., meet.
