FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams traveled to take on the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference play, as the men fell 188-74 and the women dropped a 208-54 decision.
Sophomore Okan Eyigor collected one of the two first-place finishes on the day for the men's squad, recording a time of 2:00.24 for the victory in the 200-yard backstroke. In the 100-yard backstroke, Eyigor swam to a second-place finish with a time of 54.93 seconds, finishing less than a second behind first place. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Eyigor helped his team take second again, along with sophomore Scott Schirmer and juniors Jake Blazer and Will Gough, recording a time of 1:29.97.
Gough captured the other first-place finish on the day, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 22.11 seconds.
Senior Daniel Keller placed second twice on the day, in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.57, and in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 55.11 seconds.
Mejia also took third in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:56.50, and in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 2:10.81.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, junior Colin Ault swam to a third-place finish in a time of 2:35.12, while freshman Stephen Arcidiacono placed third in the 100-yard butterfly good for a time of 57.62 seconds.
The women's team started off the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, thanks to the team of freshman Bizu Baldinazzo, sophomores Victoria Radcliffe and Layne Gable and junior Nicki Schult. The same team of swimmers also notched third in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:48.60.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Baldinazzo finished just .15 seconds behind first place with a time of 26.45 seconds to take silver in the event.
Radcliffe captured second in the 100-yard breaststroke, tallying a time of 1:14.75, while placing fourth in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:22.15.
Gable took third in the 100-yard butterfly to finish with a time of 1:04.79, and finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 2:27.90.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Schult collected a 2:08.86 finish for third place in the event.
Sophomore Nicole Marders finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:02.71, and placed third in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:24.20.
The Sea Gulls will be back in action on Saturday, January 17, when they head to Arlington, Virginia to take on the Saints of Marymount (Va.) University. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m.
