Salisbury splits CAC meet with Marymount; men win 115-88

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams split today's Capital Athletic Conference meet with Marymount (Va.) University. The men came out victorious, 115-88, while the women fell, 121-84.

The win for the men marks the sixth-straight victory over the Saints.

The Sea Gull men started the meet off strong with wins in the first three events, starting with the team of junior Darryl Baxter, freshman Jeremy Powell, junior Mike Bengtson and freshman Ryan Greene, finishing the 400-meter medley relay in 4:40.43.

Sophomore Eric Gillies and junior James Gough followed with victories in the 800-meter freestyle (9:51.95) and 200-meter freestyle (2:07.32), respectively. Gough led the men with two first-place finishes, as he also won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:05.14.
 
Senior Sarah Ault led the women's team to its first win of the afternoon in the 100-meter butterfly (1:09.84).
 
Freshman Nikki Schult and sophomore Taylor Merget each had first-place finishes, as well. Merget finished the 100-meter backstroke in 1:13.92, and Schult won the 400-meter freestyle in 4:55.33.
 
The Salisbury men added the final win of the day in the 400-meter freestyle relay. Senior Eric Robichaud, freshman John Thompson, sophomore Rich Ambrose and Greene finished the event in 3:59.42.
 
The Sea Gulls will next be in action in the Golden Bear Invitational at Kutztown University; the two-day meet will take place on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17.
