Salisbury comes out victorious over Frostburg in first CAC meet

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams picked up their first wins of the 2012-13 season in Saturday's Capital Athletic Conference opener against Frostburg State University; the men's team won 102-80, and the women won 108-81.

The Sea Gulls got off to a good start with both teams placing first in the 200-meter medley relay. The women's team of junior Julie Mstowski, sophomore Brittany Steele, freshman Andria Moyer and sophomore Taylor Merget finished with a time of 2:18.79. Junior James Gough, freshman Will Gough, sophomore Daniel Keller and senior Eric Robichaud finished in 1:59.42 on the men's side.

Salisbury continued on to finish first in each of the first 14 events, seven for the men and seven for the women. In all, the teams combined to place first in 15 events.

Freshman Nikki Schult led the women's side with three first-place finishes, winning the 100-meter freestyle (1:06.13), the 200-meter individual medley (2:40.63) and the 200-meter freestyle (2:21.59).

Senior Staci Carbone (800-meter freestyle in 10:40.76), Merget (50-meter freestyle in 30.42) and senior Sarah Ault (100-meter butterfly in 1:11.19) all finished first, as well.

The men's team was led by James Gough with two first-place finishes, in the 400-meter freestyle (4:43.20) and the 200-meter freestyle (2:08.52).

The Gulls also had top finishes from Will Gough, in the 50-meter freestyle (26.12), senior Paul Zoli, in the 200-meter individual medley (2:26.48), sophomore Philip Kuldell, in the 800-meter freestyle (10:21.42), Keller, in the 100-meter butterfly, (1:02.85) and sophomore Rich Ambrose, in the 100-meter freestyle (58.75).

The Sea Gulls will be in action again on Saturday, Nov. 3, as they travel to Ursinus College for a 1 p.m. meet.
