Video: Women's soccer vs Penn State Harrisburg
The women's soccer team opened up a four-game conference home stand on Saturday, October 7th against the Penn State University Lions as a part of Homecoming weekend festivities. The Sea Gulls looked to continue their recent momentum of three straight conference shutout victories against a lions team with a potent offensive attack. But it was the Maroon and Gold that scored first in the 9th minute when forward Julianna Boller spun past the defense before taking the ball in for a close-range shot that found the back of the net. A free kick in the final moments of the first half almost tied the contest for the Lions, but goalkeeper Hope Knussman bailed her teammates out on a great save, deflecting the ball above the crossbar and out of harm's way. The team was all smiles to start the second half after dominating possession for the first 45 minutes. The momentum carried over, and in the 70th minute, forward Ruthie Lucas received a header from teammate Carly Glassford before driving to the net to double the Sea Gull Lead. The score would hold and push Salisbury's conference shutout streak to four games. The team will look to keep their streak alive when CAC opponent Marymount University comes to town on Wednesday, October 11th for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
