HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team traveled to play Pennsylvania State University- Harrisburg in Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon and brought down the Lions by a 4-0 final.
The Lions (5-8, 2-2 CAC) wasted no time getting the action going as in the first minute they were awarded a corner kick that resulted in a shot on target that got Hope Knussman in the save column early.
However just as the Lions attacked early, the Sea Gulls (3-5-3, 2-2 CAC) had their own early look.
Keeping complacency at bay with the 1-0 lead, the Sea Gulls stayed on the attack netting their second tally of the match just five minutes later.
Lucas added to her point total, this time with an assist. She found an open Jenny Gavigan who put it home in the 11th minute to notch her first goal of the season and give Salisbury a quick 2-0 lead.
At the half, despite the 2-0 score, the team's statistics were rather similar. Both squads had five shots and three corner kicks.
Salisbury kept to its attacking ways early in the second half as they added on to their lead.
Andonian added her second helper of the day in the 59th minute as she found Gavigan, who tallied her second goal of the day to put Salisbury up, 3-0.
The two-goal day is the first time in her career that Gavigan has accomplished the feat.
As time was winding down, Salisbury added another goal to put the Lions away. In the 89th minute, Ellen Anderson notched her first career goal to end the days scoring.
The four goals would be all the Sea Gulls needed to hold on for the conference victory as they outshot the Lions 15-9 on the day.
Knussman got her second shutout of the season in net, stopping two shots along the way.
The Gulls return to action on Wednesday, October 12 when they will take on Marymount (Va.) University in mid-week CAC action under the lights. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
