YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team will start the season at No. 2 in the Capital Athletic Conference, according to the CAC preseason coaches' poll that was released on Wednesday.
The Sea Gulls collected two first-place votes, and accumulated a total of 70 points to take the second spot. After finishing the 2013 season with a 5-2-1 record in the Capital Athletic Conference and a loss to Christopher Newport University in the CAC semifinals, the Gulls will look to contend for the title game this year. SU brings back a core group of players, led by senior goalkeeper Michelle Conrad and a high-powered offense featuring Samantha Beck and Lindsey Andonian.
Christopher Newport received five first-place nods and 74 points overall to take first in the conference. After defeating Salisbury in the semifinals, the Captains were bested by York (Pa.) College in the conference championship. CNU finished the season with an overall record of 14-4-2.
The Spartans of York sit right behind Salisbury with 69 points and three first-place votes after winning the conference championship against the Captains in 2013.
The season begins for the Sea Gulls on Friday, August 29 against Bridgewater (Va.) College in Lexington, Virginia, but CAC action will not begin for SU until September 27 when it will take on Southern Virginia University (8th in the conference) at home.
