Sea Gulls post third-straight shutout with 2-0 victory

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team improved its record to 3-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference with Saturday's 2-0 win over the University of Mary Washington.

The Gulls scored their first goal 24 minutes into the first half when senior defender Amanda Zyzak cut across the middle of the field to collect a pass from fellow senior Kira Mangone and put the ball in the back of the net. The goal was Zyzak's third in Salisbury's last two games.

Neither team took many shots in the game with the Sea Gulls (7-3-2, 3-0 CAC) outshooting Mary Washington (6-3-1, 1-2 CAC) 9-6, but Salisbury was able to take advantage of another scoring opportunity in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Freshman forward Morgan Brasch scored 10 minutes into the second half to give the Gulls a 2-0 lead. She was assisted on the goal by senior midfielder Amanda Miele and junior defender Erin Mooney. Brasch now has three goals on the year.

Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Conrad made two saves on the way to her fourth shutout of the season.

Salisbury will be in action again Wednesday, Oct. 5, as it travels to Wesley College for another CAC match. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
