Salisbury falls to Richard Stockton, 2-1

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University women's soccer team suffered its second loss of the season at the hands of The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey on Wednesday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex. The Sea Gulls (6-2-2, 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference) fell 2-1 to the Ospreys (9-3-1) in an aggressive non-conference match that resulted in two yellow cards, one per team.

Richard Stockton gained momentum early in the match, as Osprey midfielder Courtney Dougherty scored an unassisted goal in the fifth minute of play. Senior defender Hillary Grove (Hagerstown, Md.) answered back in the 19th minute with a well-placed goal that sailed directly above the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net, tying the game up at 1-1. Richard Stockton's Leah Pocoroba fired a shot past freshman goalkeeper Melissa Orgera (Arnold, Md.) to give the Ospreys the 2-1 lead. The teams were held scoreless in the second half, as both the Sea Gulls and Ospreys fought for possession but were unable to capitalize on any opportunities.

The Sea Gulls look to rebound from the loss, as well as improve upon their perfect CAC record, with five consecutive conference matches. The maroon and gold will travel to York, Pa. to face CAC opponent York College on Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. Salisbury's next home match will be against CAC foe Hood College on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
