Sea Gulls wrap up SU Classic with 1-0 victory

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University women's soccer team picked up its second victory in as many days with a 1-0 defeat of Guilford College on Sunday. The game was the final contest of the SU Classic at the SU Soccer Complex in front of a crowd of 150.

The Sea Gulls (2-1) dominated play throughout the game as they fired off 29 shots and allowed the Quakers (0-3) just four. The Sea Gulls broke a scoreless tie in the 52nd minute, when sophomore forward Sarah Jessilonis (Pasadena, Md.) nailed a shot from the center of the field over Guilford goalkeeper Bree Vohs (nine saves) into the top left corner of the goal.

The Sea Gulls came close to adding an insurance goal in the 81st minute. SU freshman forward Sarah Pfundstein (Crofton, Md.) played a cross in from the left corner of the field that went over Vohs' outstretched hands and pinged off the right post before a Quaker defender cleared the ball away from danger.

SU freshman goalkeeper Melissa Orgera (Arnold, Md.) notched her second shutout of the season. Orgera needed to make just one save in the game and did a great job of securing the ball on long balls played by the Quakers.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action Sept. 12, when they host Lynchburg College at 1 p.m. at the SU Soccer Complex. Last season the two teams played to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 7 in Lynchburg, Va.
