110 minutes later, Salisbury's game ends in a scoreless tie
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University women's soccer team tied 0-0 with Lynchburg College on Sunday at the SU Soccer Complex. This is the first tie game of the season for the Gulls, bringing their record to 2-1-1. The game was originally set to be played on Saturday, but was postponed due to the passing of the former Lynchburg men's soccer head coach, William Shellenberger.
The Sea Gulls were outshot by the Hornets 21-10 in a very physical match, as Salisbury chalked up 16 fouls. Their best scoring opportunity came in the second half when sophomore forward Sarah Jessilonis (Pasadena, Md.) found herself directly in front of Lynchburg's goalie. Her shot sailed over the net. Jessilonis had four shots on the day, two of which were on goal. Salisbury's defense was tight, as freshman goalie Melissa Orgera (Arnold, Md.) (2-1-1) played the full 120 minutes and made 10 saves between the posts for the Gulls.
Salisbury's next opponent of the season will be Rowan University on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 4:30pm at the SU Soccer Complex.
