Sea Gulls score early goal, hold off Wesley in CAC opener
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
women's soccer team defeated Route 13 rival and Capital Athletic
Conference foe Wesley College, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon at the SU
Soccer Complex.
Salisbury (3-2-2, 1-0 CAC) scored three minutes into the game,
in an unconventional style, when Wesley back Becky Krebs attempted
to clear the ball from her own box. Her pass was deflected
right into the goal off of the body of junior Christina
Eury.
The Gulls held the 1-0 advantage at halftime and did not look
back in their conference opener. SU outshot the Wolverines 7-1 in
the first half and 17-2 for the game. The Sea Gull
defense prevented Wesley (3-2-0, 1-2-0 CAC) from getting a
single shot on goal.
The shutout victory was senior goalie Gena
Goodson's second of the season as she played the full 90
minutes in the net for SU.
Salisbury will remain at home this Saturday when they host
Stevenson University (formerly known as Villa Julie College) in a
CAC game that begins at 12:30 p.m.
