Sea Gulls drop 1-0 decision to Ursinus College

SALISBURY, Md. - The shots were there for the Salisbury University women's soccer team but the Sea Gulls couldn't hold off a late charge by Ursinus College to drop the home opener, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex. SU held a 15-1 advantage in shots. The loss snaps Salisbury's five-game unbeaten streak.

Ursinus (1-4-0) claimed its first win of the season as the Bears made the most out of their one shot. Junior defender Melissa Reuter blasted a shot from the right side of the box into upper left corner of the goal to but Ursinus on the board with 23 minutes left in the game. The goal was Reuters' first of the season.

Salisbury (2-2-2) was very aggressive offensively as the Gulls had seven shots on goal. UC senior goalkeeper Lisa Clark put together a fine performance as she registered seven saves. In the waning minutes of the second half, the Sea Gulls had two chances to tie the game but came up empty. Freshman forward Samantha Ondrejcak booted a shot on goal from the left side of the box but hit the right post. Freshman forward Amanda Miele followed with a shot from right outside of the box but was denied by a diving Clark.

Ondrejcak led the Gulls with three shots, two on goal. Four other Sea Gulls had two shots including Katie Marshall, Sarah Jessilonis, Mara Hauf and Miele.

SU led Ursinus in corner kicks, 7-2. Senior goalie Gena Goodson suffered her first loss since the season opener on August 30.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Wednesday, September 17, as they host Rt. 13 rival Wesley College in the Capital Athletic Conference opener at 4:30 p.m.
