SU bounces back with 2-1 victory over Nazareth

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Salisbury University women's soccer team defeated Nazareth College 2-1 on Sunday afternoon on the second day of the 2008 Orthopaedic Associates of Virginia Classic hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. Salisbury's two unassisted goals came from non-starting freshmen and were scored within seven minutes of each other in the first half.

Salisbury (1-1-0) forward Samanatha Ondrejcak evened the match at 1-1 in the 28th minute as she beat Golden Flyer goalie Hillary Simon (seven saves) to the net. In the 35th minute defender Danielle Crowley netted the game-winner to place SU ahead for good. The goals by Ondrejcak and Crowley are their first-ever collegiate goals.

For the second time in as many days the maroon and gold found themselves in a match in which all of the scoring came in the first half. In this afternoon's contest there were 15 shots in the first half and eight combined saves. SU goalie Gena Goodson made four of her five saves in the first half. Goodson recorded 12 saves in the weekend tournament and allowed three goals on 15 shots faced.

Nazareth outshot Salisbury 16-11 while the Sea Gulls held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Sea Gulls will play again on Saturday, September 6, as they will return to Virginia to take on Guilford as part of a weekend series in Lynchburg. SU's second game will be on Sunday against the host the host Hornets of Lynchburg College.
