Salisbury records first shutout of the season

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Salisbury University women's soccer team recorded its first shutout out of the 2008 season as they defeated Guilford College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon on day one of the Shellenberger Classic hosted by Lynchburg College. SU freshman Sarah Jessilonis fed the ball to sophomore Brenna Stuhler, who found the back of the net in the 75th minute for the game-winner.

Salisbury (2-1) received excellent contributions off the bench as six substitutes recorded at least one shot on goal. On the other side of the ball, the defense played their best game of the young season and limited the Quakers (1-2) to just seven shots for the game, four on goal. Senior Gena Goodson (four saves) recorded her first shutout in '08 as she recorded three last season.

The Sea Gulls dominated almost every facet of the game as it outshot Guilford 10-4 in the first half and 19-7 for the game and had three times as many corner kicks than Guilford, 6-2.

The maroon and gold will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against the host Hornets of Lynchburg at 12:30 p.m. to wrap-up the Shellenberger Classic.
