YORK, Pa. - The
Capital Athletic Conference announced its 2008 all-conference
women's soccer team on Wednesday and Salisbury University had four
players earn a spot on the first and second teams. Senior defender
Kelli Salter was the only Sea Gull named to the
first team. SU had three players collect second team honors in
senior midfielder Katie Marshall, senior goalie
Gena Goodson and junior defender Hillary
Grove. The group led Salisbury (8-4-5) to nine shutouts
this season and held the opposition to just 12 goals in 17
games.
Salter earns her first-ever All-CAC honor of her career. The
Marlton, N.J., product was a mainstay in the backfield for SU as
she was one of two Sea Gulls to start in all 17 games this season.
In Salisbury's double-overtime victory against York (Pa.)
College on September 27 she tallied her only assist of the
season on a perfectly executed corner kick. The senior notched
the first goal of her career in a 3-1 loss to Richard Stockton on
October 8. In her four-year career at Salisbury, she started
in 55 games and led SU to an overall record of 38-25-8.
Goodson was named to her second consecutive All-CAC second
team. The senior posted a 8-4-5 record in net for the maroon and
gold. The Lexington Park, Md., product made 67 saves this season
and was second in the CAC and 44th in Division III with a .848 save
percentage. She posted a 0.655 goals against average,
which was third in the CAC and 41st in Division III. Goodson was
named CAC Player of the Week twice (September 8 and September 22).
Grove is also repeating as an All-CAC honoree after starting in
16 games for the Sea Gulls. Last season, she was named to the
All-CAC first team. The Frederick, Md., native tallied an assist in
games against Marymount (Va.) University on October 14 and
Gallaudet University on October 21. Grove took the majority of the
corner kick attempts for the Salisbury offense. The junior led
SU to a 0.529 shutout percentage, which ranked 50th in the nation
and tops in the CAC. In her three-year career, she has started in
52 games.
Marshall started in 16 games for Salisbury this season. The
Middletown, Del., native was a big part in holding SU's opponents
to just 10.4 shots per game. Marshall tallied the only point and
assist of her career on Salisbury's first goal against York (Pa.)
in the CAC tournament semifinal game. In her four-year career
for the Sea Gulls she played in 65 games.
St. Mary's (Md.) had two honorees in senior forward Lauren
Carrier (CAC Player of the Year) and Brianne Weaver (CAC Coach
of the Year). The CAC Rookie of the Year was presented to Stevenson
rookie midfielder Stephanie Eyler who led the conference in goals
with 21.
In coach Jim Nestor's eight years at the helm
of the SU women's soccer program 25 student-athletes have earned
All-CAC honors.
