Nov 29, 2007 Weaver named to Academic All-America First Team WALTHAM, Mass. - Salisbury University forward
Kate Weaver was selected to the 2007 ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-America Women's Soccer First Team, as
selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA). Weaver becomes the 14th Sea Gull to earn Academic
All-America honors in the College Division since 2001.
Weaver is the first SU student-athlete to garner this award since
Mary Bateman was named to the women's at-large second team in 2006.
She is also the first Sea Gull to earn first team honors since Nick
Pegelow was named in 2005 to the baseball first team.
The Abingdon, Md., native holds a 4.0 grade point average and is a
math major. She is one of four student-athletes on the first team
to hold a 4.0 cumulative grade point average as the 11 member first
team has an overall grade point average of 3.91. She led the Sea
Gulls in all three offensive statistical categories as she scored
11 goals and added eight assists for 30 points on the season.
Weaver was named the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference Player of the
Year and was a first team selection at forward.
For her career she ranks third all-time in goals with 36, fourth
all-time in assists with 17 and is tied for second all-time with 89
points.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key
reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a
scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic
standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by
his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic
All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in
Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship
sports.
