Oct 15, 2007 Salisbury downed by Ospreys, 1-0SALISBURY, Md. -The Salisbury University women's soccer team
managed only three shots on goal Monday afternoon as Richard
Stockton defeated the Sea Gulls, 1-0, in front of the crowd of 130
at the SU Soccer Complex.
Salisbury (10-2-1) was outshot 10-2 in the first half and
Richard Stockton's (13-2-2) Shelley Gibney scored in the 36th
minute to give the Ospreys their first win over the Sea Gulls since
2004.
The maroon and gold had its opportunities as Salisbury earned six
second half corner kicks. The best chance came in the 80th minute
when junior Christian Eury sent a ball to the
middle of the box that senior Kate Weaver headed
for the apparent equalizer. Richard Stockton's Alex Rogers denied
the scoring threat as she punched the ball over the goal.
Rogers made two saves on the afternoon and improved her record to
12-2-1 in net for the Ospreys while junior Gena
Goodson (6-2-1) made four saves in the loss.
The Ospreys held the advantage in shots, 13-11, while SU had five
more corner kicks than Richard Stockton, 9-4.
The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, October 20, as they
host Capital Athletic Conference foe Hood at 1 p.m. at the SU
Soccer Complex.
