Four first half goals sends Salisbury back to CAC championship game

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University women's soccer team advanced to its second consecutive Capital Athletic Conference championship game with a 4-0 win over Wesley in the conference semifinals on Wednesday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex.

Top-seed Salisbury (14-2-1) scored all four of its goals in the first half as senior midfielders Sara Schmidt and Robyn Bishop each had two goals.

Salisbury will host second-seed York (Pa.) College on Saturday, November 3, in the CAC championship game at the SU Soccer complex. Salisbury has won three CAC championships (1994, 2000, '06) since it joined the conference in 1994. The Spartans advanced to the title game with a 3-0 win over third-seed University of Mary Washington.

Schmidt started the scoring in the 21st minute with a goal off an assist from junior Dana Passucci to put SU up 1-0. Bishop scored nearly eight minutes later as she took a rebound off the post and put it in the back of the net to give the maroon and gold a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.

Salisbury continued its scoring barrage as senior Kate Weaver found Schmidt for her second goal of the afternoon in the 31st minute. Five minutes later Bishop tacked on her second goal of the contest off a feed from junior Kelli Salter.

The Sea Gulls outshot the Wolverines 24-5 for the game and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

SU junior Gena Goodson improved her record to 10-2-1 as a starter as she made three saves in the first half. Wesley's Brittany Block made 10 saves in the loss.
