ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Capital Athletic
Conference announced its 2007 all-conference women's soccer team
and Salisbury University had four players earn a spot on the first
and second teams which includes senior forward Kate
Weaver who was named CAC Player of the Year.
Weaver led the Sea Gulls to a second place finish in the CAC
tournament, an at-large berth into the NCAA tournament and the most
wins in a season (14) since 2001. The Abingdon, Md., native leads
the team in all three scoring categories with 11 goals, eight
assists and 30 points.
For her career she has recorded 89 points which ranks second
all-time as a Sea Gull, scored 36 goals which ranks third all-time
and is fourth all-time with 17 assists. Weaver is the first
Salisbury player since Ava Tasker in 1996 to be named CAC Player of
the Year.
Senior Robyn Bishop garnered a spot on her
second consecutive All-CAC team as she was named to the first team
as a midfielder. Bishop ranks second on the team with nine goals
and has added one assist for 19 total points this year.
The final Sea Gull to earn a spot on the first team is sophomore
defender Hillary Grove. She has helped the Sea
Gulls to a conference best 0.59 goals against average and has
scored a pair goals and had one assist on the year.
Junior goalie Gena Goodson was named to the
second team as she has posted a 10-3-1 record in net for the maroon
and gold. Her 88 percent saves percentage ranks 20th in the nation
and her 0.71 goals against average is second in the conference to
SU's Kristin Greene who has logged 200 less
minutes then Goodson.
In coach Jim Nestor's seven years at the helm
of the SU women's soccer program 21 student-athletes have earned
all-conference honors and now a CAC Player of the Year. Nestor was
last season's CAC Coach of the Year.
