SALISBURY, Md. - The top-ranked and defending
NCAA Division III women's soccer national champions, Messiah
College, handed Salisbury University its first loss of the 2006
season with a 4-0 shutout at the SU Soccer Complex.
The Sea Gulls (1-1-1) were outshot by the Falcons 18-4 and only
managed one shot on goal.
The Falcons (3-0) scored their first goal at the 6th minute off
a thrown in by Rachel Horning who found Stef Rowe for her goal of
the season. One minute later, Kaci Klynstra scored an unassisted
goal which was followed eight minutes later a Horning goal off a
corner kick.
Messiah held a 3-0 lead over the Sea Gulls at halftime.
In the second half, the Falcons continued to solve the Sea Gull
defense and find the back of the net as Corrie Jones scored at the
57th minute to give Messiah the 4-0 lead.
Salisbury senior Samantha Phipps started the
game in goal and made three saves. The combination of Cassie Grose
and Brindley Beckwith made two saves for the Falcons.
Salisbury will return to action on Wednesday, September 13, as
they travel to Virginia Beach, Va., to take on the Marlins of
Virginia Wesleyan College.
