Salisbury, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team concluded its regular season home slate with a dominating 21-3 victory over visiting Marymount (Va.) University in Capital Athletic Conference Action on Wednesday.
Marymount (9-6, 3-3 CAC) struck first at the 23 minute mark as the Sea Gulls (14-0, 6-0 CAC) got off to a slow start offensively. Alexis Strobel finally got the maroon and gold on the board just over 11 minutes into action on a free position shot.
It was all Salisbury the rest of the way, as the Sea Gulls scored the next eight goals. Marymount made it 9-2 with 1:34 remaining in the half, but Salisbury found the back of the net two more times to make it 11-2 going into the break.
Krissy Murphy tallied five goals in the first half to lead the Salisbury offense, which outshot the Saints 30-2 in the half and 55-4 in the game. The four shots are the fewest Salisbury has allowed in a game all season.
Gabrielle Mongno chipped in two goals in the first half, including one on a free-position shot. The Sea Gulls were 5-of-11 on free-position shots in the game.
Murphy then assisted on three of Salisbury's first four goals in the second half, all to different players. Murphy found Mongno to open the second half scoring just 34 seconds in, giving Mongno her second hat trick of the season.
Emma Skoglund helped Salisbury outscore Marymount 10-1 in the second half with four goals. Skoglund's final two goals came from Strobel, who finished the day with two goals and three assists.
Martha Hutzell was dominant on the draw control for the Sea Gulls with eight draws, while Salisbury collected 22 to Marymount's three.
Salisbury hits the road for the final three games of the regular season, the first of which is at No. 3 The College of New Jersey on Friday, April 20 at 6 p.m.
