FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly women's lacrosse awards on Monday afternoon and Salisbury University senior Gianna Falcone was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Falcone posted a 6.50 goals against average and 62.9 save percentage in two wins over nationally-ranked opponents, helping the third-ranked Sea Gulls improve to 8-0 on the season. Falcone made 22 saves while allowing just 13 goals in the two victories.
In a 12-8 win over then-No. 13 William Smith College, Falcone recorded nine saves on 17 shots on goal. Falcone then held No. 5 York College of Pennsylvania to just five goals on 18 shots on net, making a season-high 13 saves. She added six ground balls to go along with the 72.2 save percentage in the win over the Spartans.
For the season, Falcone ranks first in the CAC with a 54.3 save percentage and is second with a 7.98 goals against average.
Falcone and the Sea Gulls return to action on Tuesday, March 27 as they travel to take on Wesley College at 4 p.m.
