GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Salisbury University women's lacrosse team will enter the 2018 season as the No. 9 team in the country, according to the Division III Coaches Pre-Season Poll released by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Monday.
Salisbury collected 434 points to land in the No. 9 spot after finishing last season with a 16-6 record. Fellow Capital Athletic Conference member York College of Pennsylvania finished one spot ahead of the Sea Gulls at No. 8 with 452 points. The University of Mary Washington was the only other CAC member in the top 25, coming in at No. 17.
Defending national champion Gettysburg College received 19 first-place votes and 618 points to come in at No. 1. The College of New Jersey, last season's runner-up, garnered the remaining six first-place votes and a total of 605 points for No. 2. Washington and Lee University, Trinity (Conn.) College, and Middlebury College round out the top five.
Salisbury defeated York (Pa.) 7-2 to claim its 17th CAC championship last season before falling to Gettysburg in the regional final.
The Sea Gulls open the season at Stevenson University on Saturday, February 17 at 1 p.m.
