SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's lacrosse team will enter the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament as the No. 3 team in the nation, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association announced Monday.
The Sea Gulls captured their 16th Capital Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, April 30 when they defeated St. Mary's College of Maryland in the conference title game, 12-5, earning an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
Once again, the top-three teams remained the same in the IWLCA poll, as the State University of New York at Cortland held on to the top spot and The College of New Jersey remained at No. 2. Salisbury stayed at No. 3 in the ranking, but Gettysburg College moved up to No. 4 after taking down No. 6 Franklin & Marshall College in the Centennial Conference championship game. Middlebury College rounds out the top-five teams, moving up one spot from last week.
Salisbury will host opening-weekend NCAA tournament action at Sea Gull Stadium on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15. Meredith College and Cabrini College will compete in the first round of the tournament on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., and the winner will take on Salisbury in the second round on Sunday at 1 p.m.
