GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America have announced the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Teams Thursday, and junior attacker Megan Wallenhorst of the No. 8 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team was placed on first team.
Wallenhorst, who most recently earned an All-Region honor by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association for her efforts on the field in 2015, makes her first appearance on the All-District team for academics. The Ellicott City, Maryland native is working towards a degree in accounting, while maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.30 grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve on her team.
The junior is a great representation of a collegiate student-athlete, as she put together a career year on the field for the lacrosse team. Leading the squad in goals this season with 34, while finishing second in assists with 19, she totaled a career-high 53 points in her second season with the Sea Gulls.
To add to her accolades for the year, she was honored by the Capital Athletic Conference as an Offensive Player of the Week on March 30 along with earning a spot on the All-CAC first team. She also notched Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Mid-Atlantic Offensive Player of the Week once.
As a member of the at-large team, Wallenhorst is one of just 11 players in District 2 selected to the team, out of student-athletes nominated from field hockey, swimming, tennis, lacrosse, and golf.
All-District selections are eligible for selection to the Academic All-America Team, which will be announced later this month.
