YORK, Pa. – Salisbury University women's lacrosse juniors Shelby Nemecek and Bethany Baer recorded their second conference awards this season, as both were honored as Capital Athletic Conference Players of the Week, the organization announced on Monday.
Nemecek posted 14 goals and an assist for 15 points through three games this past week to be recognized as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week. Against Christopher Newport University, the junior recorded a career-high with six goals and an assist for seven points, while also winning a tied game-high five draw controls. In another top-five victory against No. 4 The College of New Jersey on Saturday, Nemecek found the back of the net three times and won three more draw controls. In the final game of the week against St. Mary's College of Maryland, the Marriottsville, Md., native recorded a game-high five goals in the 11-3 win.
For the week, Nemecek won 10 total draw controls while causing one turnover and scooping a groundball.
Baer was honored as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after having well-rounded performances in two games this past week. Against Christopher Newport, the junior midfielder had game highs in groundballs (6), draw controls (5) and caused turnovers (4), while also posting four goals and an assist for five points. In the 9-6 win over TCNJ, the Westminster, Md., native won three more draw controls and added a game-high three assists.
Nemecek, Baer and the Sea Gulls take the field on Wednesday at 4 p.m., for their last home regular-season game against conference-opponent Marymount (Va.) University before traveling to Cortland, N.Y., on Sunday, April 20, for a matchup of the top-two teams in the country. Salisbury will face off against the State University of New York at Cortland at 12 p.m.
